Key Features of the Germany Opportunity Card

Eligibility: Understanding the Points-Based System

To qualify for the Opportunity Card, you must score at least 6 points based on the following criteria:

1. Education

• Vocational training (minimum 2 years, state-recognized) or
  
• University degree (recognized in your country)
  Points awarded based on qualification
  

2. Language Proficiency

• German (minimum A1) or
  
• English (minimum B2)
  Learn via platforms like Babbel, Preply, TOEFL, Goethe, IELTS.
  

3. Proof of Financial Support

• Show proof of funds: €13,092 in a blocked account (2025 figure)
  This covers your living expenses for 12 months.
  

4. Work Experience

• 1 year = 1 point
  
• 2 years = 2 points
  
• 3+ years = 3 points
  

5. Previous Stay in Germany

• 1 extra point if you’ve lived in Germany for 6+ months in the past 5 years
  

6. Spouse’s Qualification

• Earn additional points if your spouse meets the basic criteria
