Key Features of the Germany Opportunity Card
- No job offer required to apply
- Stay in Germany for up to one year while job hunting
- 6-point system to assess eligibility

- Work part-time (up to 20 hours/week) and earn up to €1,000/month
- Possibility to transition to full-time employment
- Opens the door to permanent residence
Eligibility: Understanding the Points-Based System
To qualify for the Opportunity Card, you must score at least 6 points based on the following criteria:
1. Education
- Vocational training (minimum 2 years, state-recognized) or
- University degree (recognized in your country)
Points awarded based on qualification
2. Language Proficiency
- German (minimum A1) or
- English (minimum B2)
Learn via platforms like Babbel, Preply, TOEFL, Goethe, IELTS.
3. Proof of Financial Support
- Show proof of funds: €13,092 in a blocked account (2025 figure)
This covers your living expenses for 12 months.
4. Work Experience
- 1 year = 1 point
- 2 years = 2 points
- 3+ years = 3 points
5. Previous Stay in Germany
- 1 extra point if you’ve lived in Germany for 6+ months in the past 5 years
6. Spouse’s Qualification
- Earn additional points if your spouse meets the basic criteria
A valid marriage certificate is required.
