The Secure World Foundation (SWF) is thrilled to announce that applications are now open for the 2025 Dr. Michael Simpson Scholarship Fund, a prestigious opportunity designed to support emerging leaders in the space sector.
This scholarship provides financial support of up to $1,500 to young professionals (under 35 years old) who have had their abstract accepted for presentation at the 76th International Astronautical Congress (IAC), taking place September 29 – October 3, 2025, in Sydney, Australia.
About the Scholarship
Named in honor of Dr. Michael Simpson, the fund aims to empower the next generation of space leaders by enabling them to attend the IAC—one of the world’s largest space-related events. Since its launch, the scholarship has supported over 60 recipients from 28 countries, offering invaluable global exposure to young professionals in the space community.
Scholarship Benefits
- Amount: Up to $1,500 (awarded in $500 increments)
- Eligible Expenses: Airfare, accommodation, and IAC registration fees
- Winner Notification: Mid-July (personal), August (public announcement)
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the 2025 award, applicants must:
- Be under the age of 35 at the time of application
- Have an abstract accepted for presentation at IAC 2025
- Not have previously received a Simpson Scholarship
- Submit their application by Monday, June 16, 2025, at 8:00 AM EDT

- A short essay (max 500 words) addressing:
- The significance and potential impact of their research
- Their motivation and goals for attending the IAC
