Applications are now open for the NIAS Safe Haven Fellowship 2026 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This fully funded opportunity is designed to support international scholars, writers, artists, and journalists who are unable to safely pursue their work in their home countries due to conflict, censorship, or threats to personal freedom.
Hosted by the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) in the Humanities and Social Sciences, this 5-month fellowship offers a temporary relocation where fellows can work freely and safely on their independent projects. Fellows can choose to participate in one of two cohorts: September–January or February–June 2026.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Open to individuals from any country
- For researchers: A minimum of 3 years post-doctoral research experience
- For journalists, artists, or writers: No PhD required
- The proposed project should relate to the humanities or social sciences
- Good command of English
- Must be physically present at NIAS at least 4 days per week
