Applications are now open for the AstraZeneca Young Health Programme (YHP) Impact Fellowship 2026, an international opportunity designed for young leaders working to improve public health, environmental sustainability, and community wellbeing.
This fellowship is organized by AstraZeneca in partnership with One Young World. The program supports emerging changemakers who are leading nonprofit initiatives aimed at addressing major health challenges affecting young people.
Selected fellows will receive funding, mentorship, and global exposure. They will also participate in the One Young World Summit 2026, scheduled to take place in Cape Town, South Africa from 3–6 November 2026.
The fellowship focuses on empowering young innovators who are creating solutions in areas such as health equity, climate and environmental health, and strengthening health systems.
About the Fellowship
The Young Health Programme Impact Fellowship aims to support young leaders who are already implementing projects that improve health outcomes in their communities. Through funding and professional development opportunities, the program helps fellows expand initiatives that prevent disease, strengthen healthcare systems, and promote healthier lifestyles among young people.
Participants will also join a global community of youth leaders committed to advancing sustainable development and public health solutions worldwide.
Fellowship Benefits
Participants selected for the 2026 fellowship will receive a variety of benefits designed to expand their impact and leadership capacity.
Fully Funded Participation in the Global Summit
Selected fellows will receive a fully funded scholarship to attend the One Young World Summit 2026 in Cape Town. The scholarship includes:
- International travel
- Accommodation
- Full access to summit activities
Leadership Development
Fellows will participate in:
- Structured leadership training sessions
- Access to the One Young World Academy, a leadership program similar to a mini MBA
- Mentorship and professional guidance from experts at AstraZeneca
Global Networking Opportunities
Participants will gain access to:
- The One Young World Ambassador Network
- The Young Health Programme global alumni community
Project Funding
Financial support will be provided to help fellows expand their nonprofit initiatives:
- Up to $10,000 grant funding for selected fellows
- One fellow may receive $50,000 through the Lead2030 Challenge supporting United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing)
The funding will be awarded to the fellow’s nonprofit organisation to implement projects between October 2026 and December 2027.
Project Focus Areas
Applicants must propose a 6–12 month project aligned with one of the following themes.
1. Health Equity
Projects that help prevent non-communicable diseases among young people by addressing key risk factors such as:
- Tobacco use
- Poor nutrition
- Physical inactivity
- Harmful alcohol consumption
- Air pollution
Projects supporting young people living with rare diseases are also eligible.
2. Climate and Nature Action
Initiatives addressing environmental challenges and climate change impacts that affect youth health and wellbeing.
3. Health Systems Resilience
Projects aimed at strengthening healthcare systems, improving early intervention, and expanding access to healthcare services for young people.
All proposed initiatives must:
- Serve underserved communities
- Demonstrate measurable impact
- Be inclusive and non-discriminatory
- Start after October 2026 and conclude by December 2027
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the fellowship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be 18–30 years old at the time of application
- Demonstrate strong leadership and commitment to social impact
- Be fluent in English (written and spoken)
- Be able to attend the One Young World Summit in Cape Town
- Have reliable internet access for virtual fellowship activities
Applicants must also:
- Be a founder or leader of a registered nonprofit organisation
- Represent an organisation that has been operating for at least three years
- Work with underserved or vulnerable communities
- Be willing to collaborate with other fellows and represent the Young Health Programme as an ambassador
Financial Eligibility for Organisations
Nonprofit organisations represented by applicants must meet the following financial criteria:
For $10,000 grants
- Annual income between $10,000 and $1,000,000
For $50,000 grants
- Annual income between $100,000 and $2,000,000
Organisations must also be able to provide documentation verifying their legal registration, governance structure, and financial status.

Applicants from all countries worldwide are eligible to apply.
