What Does the Education Cover?
The Vocational Qualification in Social and Health Care consists of 180 competence points (cps) and takes approximately three years to complete. The program includes:
Vocational Units (145 cps):
- Customer Interaction and Guidance (20 cps)
- Promotion of Well-being and Functional Capacity (25 cps)
- Medication Care within Practical Nurse’s Responsibility (10 cps)
- Competence in Elderly Care and Rehabilitation (60 cps)
- Optional Modules (15-30 cps)
Common Units (35 cps):
- Communication and Interaction Competence
- Mathematics and Science Competence
- Citizenship and Working Life Competence
Each student receives a personalized study plan based on their previous education and experience.
Where and How Are Studies Conducted?
The program is offered as contact studies at the Pohjolankatu Campus in Savonlinna, Finland, with instruction available in both Finnish and English.
Who Can Apply?
This program is open to individuals interested in social and health care, including international applicants. However, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Finnish Language Proficiency: Basic level A2.1 (tested via an aptitude test)
- English Language Proficiency: Minimum 85 points in the Duolingo English Test
- Educational Qualification: General upper secondary school certificate or school-leaving certificate
- Health Requirements: Good physical and mental condition to work as a practical nurse
Incomplete applications or failure to meet these requirements will result in disqualification.

Application Process
1. Take the Duolingo English Test
Applicants must submit an official Duolingo English Test certificate (minimum 85 points). The test assesses reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills and can be completed online.
2. Submit a Two-Minute Video
Record a video answering the following questions:
- In Finnish:
- Why are you applying for Practical Nurse training?
- How have you studied Finnish?
- How long have you been studying Finnish?
- Why would you make a good community nurse?
- Why are you applying for Practical Nurse training?
- In English:
- What expectations do you have for the education?
- How do you assess your readiness and ability to move to and study in Savonlinna?
- What expectations do you have for the education?
The video must be uploaded as a shareable link in your application. Videos longer than two minutes will not be evaluated.
3. Attach Required Documents
Applicants must submit:
- Duolingo English Test certificate
- Educational certificates
- Video link
4. Attend the Aptitude Test
Eligible applicants will be invited to an in-person aptitude test at Pohjolankatu Campus, Savonlinna, on 10th June 2025. Online aptitude tests are not available. The test is conducted in Finnish with English assistance if necessary.
Applicants who do not attend, score 0, or do not meet the health requirements will not be selected.
