Applications are now open for the St. Gallen Symposium Leader of Tomorrow Essay Competition 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious global essay challenges for young changemakers.
This annual competition invites graduate and postgraduate students from around the world to share forward-thinking ideas and compete for a place among the top 100 “Leaders of Tomorrow” who will attend the 55th St. Gallen Symposium in Switzerland (May 5–7, 2026) — fully funded.
Winners will not only engage with over 600 senior global leaders but also compete for a total cash prize of CHF 20,000, distributed among the top three essays.
About the Essay Competition
The St. Gallen Global Essay Competition provides a unique platform for young academics and future leaders to present bold ideas on pressing global challenges.
Each year, selected participants travel to Switzerland to interact directly with influential thinkers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and innovators — building networks that last a lifetime.
2026 Essay Topic
This year’s theme explores the intersection of technology, politics, and demographic change.
Applicants must:
- Choose a real-world scenario where at least two of these forces converge.
- Develop a strategic, forward-looking solution that maximizes the benefits while minimizing potential risks over time.
Essays should be original, analytical, and creative, reflecting your independent perspective. While AI tools can assist with research, submissions must express the author’s authentic voice and insight.

Selected “Leaders of Tomorrow” will receive:

Eligibility Criteria
To apply, candidates must:
- Be enrolled in a recognized graduate or postgraduate program (Master’s or PhD level).
- Be born in 1996 or later.
- Submit an original, anonymous essay not exceeding 2,100 words (excluding references, figures, and tables).
- Clearly indicate the word count at the end of the essay.
- Meet all formatting and submission requirements listed on the official website.
