Applications are now open for the Asia Foundation 2026 Development Fellows Program — a fully funded, year-long leadership initiative designed to empower the next generation of changemakers across Asia and the Pacific.
This prestigious fellowship targets exceptional leaders under 40, offering them the opportunity to strengthen their leadership capacity, expand their understanding of regional development challenges, and build lasting cross-cultural and professional networks.
Program Overview
The Asia Foundation Development Fellows program is a comprehensive one-year fellowship that blends leadership training, international exposure, and professional mentorship.
Drawing on more than 70 years of The Asia Foundation’s experience in governance, gender equality, environmental sustainability, and inclusive development, the program helps emerging leaders drive meaningful and lasting change in their communities.
Key Program Components
Spring 2026: Leadership Training & Study Tour — South Korea (April 19–25, 2026)
Fellows will participate in interactive leadership modules led by seasoned experts and executive coaches. The Korea session includes policy exchanges, site visits, and strategy workshops focused on innovation, resilience, and adaptive leadership.
Fall 2026: Leadership Dialogue & Exchange — United States (September 28–October 7, 2026)
The U.S. component builds on the spring program, offering Fellows the chance to engage with global development practitioners, policy leaders, and organizations making international impact — fostering collaboration and new perspectives.
Mentorship & Executive Coaching
Each Fellow receives one-on-one executive coaching and tailored mentorship aligned with their leadership journey. Participants gain guidance from The Asia Foundation’s network of experienced professionals, ensuring both personal and professional growth beyond the fellowship year.
Program Benefits
- Fully Funded Fellowship (travel, accommodation, and program costs covered)
- Professional Development Award of up to USD 2,500 to support personalized learning or career advancement activities (short courses, language study, conferences, etc.)

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be citizens or residents of eligible Asia-Pacific countries (including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pacific Islands, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam).
- Be under 40 years old as of January 1, 2026.
- Demonstrate strong professional achievements in areas aligned with The Asia Foundation’s focus.
- Exhibit leadership potential and a clear commitment to community or national development.
- Be fluent in English (no test score required).
- Be available for full participation in all program components and eligible for U.S. visa processing.
