What’s on Offer?
The British Council is awarding £28,000 in tax-free funding, alongside continuing professional development support and exclusive access to a network of language teaching professionals.
This scholarship is designed to support talented individuals training to teach Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)—specifically French, German, or Spanish—in English secondary schools.

Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the scholarship, you must:
- Hold or be predicted to achieve at least a 2:1 Bachelor of Honours degree (or equivalent),
OR have a relevant Master’s or PhD. - Have studied one of the following languages:
- French
- German
- Spanish
- French
Candidates with a 2:2 degree or a degree in another subject may also be considered if they can demonstrate strong language proficiency.
You must also have:
- Secured a place on an eligible non-salaried Initial Teacher Training (ITT) course in England leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) by September 2025.
Important Update for International Applicants
The International Relocation Payment (IRP) will no longer be available to trainees starting their training in the 2025/26 academic year. This does not affect eligibility for the British Council scholarship.
Contact your ITT provider directly for information about any other financial support you may qualify for.

Note: Receiving the scholarship does not guarantee you a training placement. You must arrange this separately through the teacher training course database.
