Looking to build a career in international relations, diplomacy, or global trade? The Delegation of the European Union to Canada (based in Ottawa) is offering funded traineeships of up to 6 months for recent graduates.
This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience inside a diplomatic mission and learn how the EU engages with Canada on political, economic, and public diplomacy issues.
Traineeship Timeline
- Start Date: Between 15 October and 30 November 2025
- Application Deadline: 5 September 2025, 12:00 PM (Ottawa time)
Available Traineeship Sections: You can apply to one of the following sections:
1. Political, Press, and Information (PPI)
Focus: Public diplomacy, media relations, political reporting, EU-Canada outreach.
Key Tasks:
- Daily media press reviews
- Research + reporting on EU-Canada political developments
- Social media and content creation
- Event organization and communication coordination
Ideal Background:
- Degree in international relations, political science, or communications
- Strong writing, research, and interpersonal skills
- Fluent in English and French
- Familiarity with Canada’s political landscape is a plus
2. Trade and Economic (TRADE)
Focus: EU-Canada trade (CETA), economic policy, and climate-linked cooperation.
Key Tasks:
- Economic-focused press reviews
- Research and reporting on trade and environment policies
- Support CETA monitoring and success stories
- Assist communication efforts in trade and climate policy
Ideal Background:
- Degree in international economics, trade, or business
- Knowledge of CETA or EU-Canada trade relations is a plus
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Fluent in English and French
Eligibility Criteria

- Be a citizen of an EU Member State or an eligible third country
- Have strong interest in international affairs, trade, or communications
- Fulfill visa/residency requirements for Canada
