The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2025 is now open for submissions, inviting young writers from across the Commonwealth to participate in this historic literary contest. Theme for 2025: “Our Commonwealth Journey”
This year’s theme, “Our Commonwealth Journey,” encourages entrants to explore the shared experiences, challenges, and aspirations that unite the diverse nations of the Commonwealth. Participants are invited to reflect on the collective journey and envision the future of this global community.

Eligibility Criteria
- Senior Category: Open to students aged 14 to 18 years.
- Junior Category: Open to students under 14 years of age.
Participants must be nationals or residents of Commonwealth countries, including Ireland, Hong Kong, and Zimbabwe.

Essay Topics
Participants may choose one topic from their respective categories.
Senior Category (14-18 years):
- Imagine a Commonwealth where everyone has equal access to education.
- Retell a famous folklore from your own or another Commonwealth country in a surprising way.
- Write about a time a book took you on a journey; how did it affect you?
- Write a story about the life journey of a plant growing in the center of your community; what does it experience?
Junior Category (Under 14 years):
- Write about a time you learned something interesting about a different Commonwealth country from your own.
- Write an account of a sea voyage from one Commonwealth country to a small island Commonwealth nation. What do you see, who do you meet?
- You embark on a very special journey when you discover a secret door that takes you to your favorite book! What happens next?
- Imagine what an animal Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) would look like! Which animals travel there? What do they discuss?
Prizes and Awards
- Winners and Runners-up: Awarded in both Senior and Junior categories.
- Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards: Presented to outstanding entries.
- Certificates of Participation: Granted to all entrants.
Fully Funded Trip to London
Winners and runners-up will receive a fully funded, week-long educational and cultural visit to London, accompanied by a parent or guardian. This prestigious trip includes:
- Airfare and accommodation.
- Meals and transportation.
- Attendance at the awards ceremony held at Buckingham Palace.

- Word Limit:
- Senior Category: Up to 1,500 words.
- Junior Category: Up to 750 words.
- Deadline: All entries must be submitted by 23rd May 2025.
