About the Fellowship
The Bonn International Fellowship is designed to support distinguished scholars from the university’s strategic partner institutions and priority regions. Fellows are fully integrated into the academic and social life at Bonn, gaining access to university resources and engaging in lectures, seminars, and collaborative research.
This short-term stay aims to initiate or strengthen international research partnerships, create long-term academic connections, and inspire joint publications or grant proposals.
Financial Coverage
Fellows will receive:
- €160 per day for up to 12 days (including arrival and departure)
- Round-trip travel expenses (amount varies by country of origin)
- Up to €500 in material costs for events hosted by your Bonn professor
- Event support including refreshments and networking gatherings
- Visibility support, including public lectures or media materials
- All funds must be used by December 31, 2026
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, you must:
- Be conducting research or teaching outside Germany
- Have a strong international academic reputation
- Be nominated by a professor at the University of Bonn (no direct applications accepted)
- Come from a strategic partner university or a country prioritized for international collaboration
- Propose a visit that includes integration into academic life (lectures, seminars, etc.)
- Present a compelling plan for long-term academic collaboration

- Detailed CV/resume
- Signed invitation letter from your host professor
- Completed budget planning Excel sheet (template provided)
- Proof of mutual agreement to participate

- Potential for future collaboration with the University of Bonn
- Strong alignment between your research goals and the host department
- Clear plan to participate in academic life at Bonn (e.g., public talks, teaching, networking)

- Find and contact a professor at the University of Bonn who shares your academic interests. If they agree to host you, they will submit the application on your behalf.

- Collaborate with them to develop a research plan and application documents.
- Your host professor submits the full application before the September 22, 2025 deadline.
