Applications are officially open for the 2026 United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) Fellowship in Japan, offered in collaboration with the Government of Japan and the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech).
This prestigious programme is designed for students from developing countries and nations without active space programmes, providing advanced training in nano-satellite engineering. Fellows will gain hands-on experience through access to Kyutech’s specialized laboratories, research facilities, and satellite development programmes, ensuring they acquire both practical skills and research-based knowledge in space technology.
About the Fellowship
The initiative, known as the Post-graduate Study on Nano-Satellite Technologies (PNST), admits only a limited number of students each year.
- Master’s Track: Up to 3 students for a two-year programme
- Doctoral Track: Up to 3 students for a three-year programme
Successful candidates must pass the entrance assessment for the Space Engineering International Course (SEIC) at Kyutech’s Graduate School of Engineering. Graduates will be awarded internationally recognized qualifications after completing all academic and research requirements, including thesis defense.
Fellowship Benefits (Fully Funded)
Selected fellows will receive full financial support under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship, which includes:
- Monthly stipend: ~144,000 JPY to cover rent, food, transportation, and daily expenses.
- Airfare: Round-trip economy class ticket from the fellow’s home country to Japan.
- Academic costs: Full coverage of entrance examinations, matriculation, and tuition fees.
This ensures that fellows can dedicate themselves fully to study, research, and innovation in space engineering without financial stress.
