The Caregiving Essentials Program is a free, self-paced online course designed to equip caregivers with the knowledge and confidence they need. Whether you’re currently supporting an older adult or preparing to take on the role, this program provides valuable resources while helping you protect your own health and well-being.
About the Opportunity
This course has been developed by the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA), THRIVE Group, and McMaster Continuing Education, with funding from the Ontario Ministry of Seniors Affairs, the Regional Geriatric Programs of Ontario, and ongoing support from McMaster University Alumni.
The course typically takes 8 weeks to complete and is fully online—accessible anytime, anywhere. It’s taught by an experienced caregiver, author, and activist who shares practical, real-world insights.
Upon successful completion with a score of 80% or higher, participants will earn a microcredential certificate.
Please note: This is a not-for-credit course and the certificate does not qualify you for professional caregiving employment or for Canada’s Home Care Immigration Program.
