Applications are now open for the IST Austria Journalist in Residence Program 2026. This fully funded international opportunity invites journalists from around the world to spend 3 to 6 months at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA).
The program is designed to promote independent, high-quality science journalism that connects scientific discoveries with society through powerful storytelling. Participants will live and work on the ISTA campus in Klosterneuburg, located near Vienna, Austria.
The next program begins in Spring 2026, and there is no application fee. Selected journalists will receive a travel allowance and a €15,000 grant to cover food, accommodation, and living expenses.

Purpose of the Program
The IST Austria Journalist in Residence Program aims to:

Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality: Open to applicants from all countries.
- Experience: Must be an experienced journalist covering science, technology, or related fields (print, broadcast, or digital).
- Engagement: Fellows are expected to actively contribute to the ISTA community by:
- Hosting media training sessions and workshops.
- Participating in lectures, talks, or panel discussions on science communication.
- Hosting media training sessions and workshops.
