Applications are now open for the International Writers Workshop (IWW) 2027 in Hong Kong. Hosted by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), this fully funded four-week residency invites writers from around the world to participate in a unique literary and cultural exchange program.
The workshop will run from 26 February to 25 March 2027 in Hong Kong and will bring together talented writers to develop their creative work, connect with other authors, and participate in literary discussions and events.
The theme for the 2027 edition is “Inheritance.” While applicants are encouraged to explore this theme in their work, it is not compulsory.
At the end of the residency, participants will take part in the IWW Literary Festival, where writers will share their experiences and literary works with audiences in Hong Kong.

About the International Writers’ Workshop
Established in 2004, the International Writers’ Workshop has welcomed over 150 writers from more than 60 countries. The residency aims to create a space where writers from different cultures can exchange ideas, collaborate, and focus on their creative projects.
The 2027 residency will conclude with the IWW Literary Festival centered around the theme “Inheritance.”
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be from any country around the world
- Have at least one published book
- Currently reside outside Hong Kong
- Have a good command of English or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese)
- Be available to attend the welcome ceremony during the first week
