About the Fellowship
The AJMI Fellowship Programme offers journalists and media researchers a unique chance to combine academic research with practical newsroom experience. Fellows will work alongside journalists, editors, and media professionals at the Al Jazeera Media Network (AJMN), gaining firsthand exposure to world-class journalism while contributing research that advances the future of media.
Programme Objectives
The fellowship aims to:
- Promote high-quality journalism and media innovation across the Global South
- Support applied research and thought leadership in journalism and media studies
- Encourage cross-cultural dialogue and diverse perspectives in global media
- Provide access to Al Jazeera’s newsroom culture, editorial standards, and production practices
Programme Tracks
1. Al Jazeera Research Fellowship
For full-time journalists, media professionals, and researchers with experience in journalism, media, communications, or social sciences.
Fellows will:
- Work with an assigned editorial or research team at AJMN
- Conduct in-depth research on a media/journalism topic
- Produce a 7,000-word research paper offering practical insights to the media industry
Duration: 3 Months
- Phase 1 (Remote): Develop research proposal and submit introduction
- Phase 2 (On-site in Doha, Qatar): Finalize research and submit the complete paper
2. Visiting Journalist Fellowship
Designed for practicing journalists seeking a fully immersive newsroom experience at Al Jazeera.
