Applications are now open for the Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships 2026/2027 in Germany. The scholarship supports outstanding international students from DAC (Development Assistance Committee) countries who wish to pursue a Master’s or PhD degree at a German university. The program is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Federal Foreign Office.
Scholarship Benefits

Eligibility Criteria

- German language proficiency at B2 level or equivalent is required
- Preference is given to applicants from DAC countries who are not yet residing in Germany
PhD Applicants
- Must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification
- Must submit a detailed research proposal and timetable
- German language proficiency at B2 level or equivalent is required
- Priority is given to applicants from DAC countries
Preferred Candidates
The foundation particularly encourages applications from:
- Students from developing countries and conflict-affected regions
- Women, especially in STEM fields
- Researchers focused on sustainability, environmental studies, democracy, and social justice
- Refugees and underrepresented groups
