The WAAW Foundation Scholarship 2025/2026 is now officially open for applications! This fully-funded initiative supports young African women pursuing undergraduate degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) at universities across Africa.
The scholarship empowers financially disadvantaged yet academically talented women who are passionate about solving real-world problems through innovation, leadership, and community impact.

About the WAAW Foundation Scholarship
The Working to Advance STEM Education for African Women (WAAW) Foundation is committed to closing the gender gap in STEM across Africa. Through scholarships, mentorship, leadership development, and outreach programs, the foundation equips young women to become problem-solvers and leaders in their communities.
Beyond financial assistance, scholars are required to lead or participate in STEM outreach projects to inspire younger girls in their schools and communities.
What the Scholarship Offers
Successful applicants will receive:
- $500 financial award to cover tuition or academic-related expenses
- Access to the WAAW Scholars Network – a pan-African community of young women in STEM
- Leadership & outreach opportunities through university-based WAAW STEM Chapters
- Mentorship, training, and professional development offered by the foundation
Eligibility Criteria
To apply, you must meet the following requirements:
- Gender & Origin: Female and of African origin
- Location: Currently living and studying at a university in Africa
- Enrollment: Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program
- Field of Study: Studying a STEM-related subject (Science, Engineering, Technology, Mathematics)
- Level of Study:
- 1st or 2nd year student, or
- 3rd year of a 5-year program
- 1st or 2nd year student, or
- Age Limit: Under 32 years
- Academic Performance: Strong academic record
- Financial Need: Must clearly demonstrate financial constraints
- Leadership & Service: Evidence of community engagement, volunteering, or leadership roles
