Applications are now open for the 2026 Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria.
Since 1977, this prestigious annual program has brought together up to 50 outstanding PhD candidates from around the world for a three-month fully funded research experience focused on solving global challenges through systems analysis.
About the Program
The YSSP is designed for advanced PhD students—typically within two years of completing their doctorate—whose research aligns with IIASA’s core projects. Participants work under the guidance of IIASA’s expert researchers in a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and international environment, exploring how their research can inform real-world policy and global decision-making.
During the program, participants will:
- Conduct original research in collaboration with IIASA mentors
- Produce a paper suitable for publication
- Build lasting professional connections within IIASA’s global research network
The 2026 edition of the program will be held on-site in Laxenburg, Austria, from 1 June to 28 August 2026, with time in September to finalize research papers.
Who Can Apply
The YSSP welcomes doctoral students from all countries whose academic work complements IIASA’s research priorities and addresses cross-cutting global issues. Applicants should demonstrate:
- Strong research potential
- Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration
- Commitment to contributing to sustainable solutions for global challenges
Program Benefits
- Fully funded participation (including living allowance, accommodation, and travel support)
