About Lightning Labs
Lightning Labs is a technology company focused on developing infrastructure around the Lightning Network, a Bitcoin-based protocol designed to enable faster and more efficient payments.
The company works on technologies that can support the development of global payment systems and new applications involving Bitcoin, stablecoins, artificial intelligence and digital transactions.
For this role, Lightning Labs is looking for a senior business development professional who can help translate the technical capabilities of Lightning into practical commercial opportunities.
The Business Development Lead will work with businesses including payment processors, exchanges, fintech companies, artificial intelligence companies, wallets, merchants and other technology organizations.
About the Business Development Lead Role
The Business Development Lead will be responsible for developing commercial strategies, identifying high-value partnerships and helping Lightning Labs expand its presence across important markets and industries.
The role combines business development, enterprise sales, strategic partnerships, market development and executive-level communication.
The successful candidate will need to understand both business and technology and be able to explain complex concepts such as Bitcoin, Lightning, stablecoins and payment infrastructure in terms that make sense to business leaders.
This is a senior-level opportunity for someone who can work independently while also collaborating closely with product, engineering, finance and other teams.
Key Responsibilities
The Business Development Lead will take responsibility for several areas of the company’s growth strategy.
Strategy and OKRs will include setting high-level business development objectives across target markets, industries and customer segments.
The successful candidate will identify promising use cases and companies for Lightning, stablecoin applications and emerging payment technologies while prioritizing partnerships that could contribute significantly to network growth.
The role will also involve working closely with product and engineering teams to communicate customer feedback and help inform product priorities and development timelines.
Monetization and Enterprise Sales
The Business Development Lead will help develop commercial models that align pricing and deal structures with the value delivered by Lightning Labs’ technology.
Potential commercial models may include volume-based pricing, tiered pricing, usage-based arrangements and partner revenue-sharing structures.
The successful candidate will personally lead and close strategic commercial agreements involving exchanges, artificial intelligence companies, payment service providers, wallets, fintech companies, miners and enterprise customers.
The role will also involve developing sales forecasts and maintaining a structured pipeline in collaboration with the finance team.
Developer Community and Market Development
Another important part of the position involves expanding Lightning Labs’ network of partners and channels.
The Business Development Lead will identify new partners and develop joint go-to-market strategies with companies involved in payment processing, liquidity, compliance, custody and infrastructure.
The role will also focus on developing distribution strategies that connect developer adoption with merchant enablement and payment volume.
Candidates will need to understand how business objectives can be connected with technical integrations, integration partners and available liquidity resources.
Executive Communication
The successful candidate will regularly communicate with senior executives and other important stakeholders.
Responsibilities include preparing executive presentations, business proposals, pitch decks, requests for proposals, board updates and partner communications.
The Business Development Lead may also represent Lightning Labs at conferences, senior-level meetings and other industry events.
Strong communication skills will therefore be important, particularly when explaining technical products and emerging payment technologies to executives and business decision-makers.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- 7–10+ years of experience in business development, strategic partnerships or enterprise sales.
- Experience working for a fintech, payments, AI, infrastructure or related technology company.
- A proven record of developing go-to-market strategies.
- Experience closing complex, multi-party commercial agreements.
- Strong knowledge of Bitcoin and the Lightning Network.
- The ability to explain technical concepts in terms of commercial and business outcomes.
- Knowledge of areas such as routing, liquidity, settlement, Taproot Assets, stablecoins or agentic payments.
- Familiarity with modern AI tools and frontier large language models.
- Experience working with senior executives and cross-functional teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
- Experience developing ROI, total cost of ownership and deal-economics models.
- The ability to work independently across different time zones.
- Willingness to travel when necessary for customers, conferences and business events.
Preferred Qualifications
Lightning Labs also lists several additional qualifications that may strengthen an applicant’s profile.
These include public writing or speaking experience relating to global payments, Bitcoin, Lightning, artificial intelligence or stablecoins.
Candidates with established professional networks among exchanges, AI companies, payment service providers, wallets, fintech companies and payment facilitators may also be well suited to the position.
Experience in markets such as Latin America, Asia or Sub-Saharan Africa can be particularly relevant.
Additional experience launching developer-led distribution channels, scaling partnerships and understanding compliance issues affecting cryptocurrency and payments can also be beneficial.
Who Can Apply?
This opportunity may be suitable for experienced professionals around the world because the position is listed as global and remote.
However, applicants should carefully consider the working-time requirement because Lightning Labs states that candidates must be willing to work on U.S. time zones.
The position is aimed at experienced professionals rather than recent graduates, with the company requesting 7–10+ years of relevant experience.
Applicants should also review the specific requirements listed by Lightning Labs before submitting an application.
Why This Remote Job May Interest African Professionals
Remote positions with international technology companies can provide opportunities for professionals to work with teams and customers across different markets without necessarily relocating to another country.
This Lightning Labs position specifically mentions experience and networks in Sub-Saharan Africa among its preferred qualifications.
Professionals based in Africa with strong experience in fintech, payments, technology, business development, Bitcoin, AI or digital infrastructure may therefore find the position relevant to their career background.
However, applicants should ensure they meet the company’s experience, technical knowledge and time-zone requirements before applying.
