Applications are now open for the 2026 Mo Ibrahim Foundation Leadership Fellowship Programme. Launched in 2011, this prestigious fellowship identifies and nurtures the next generation of outstanding African leaders, equipping them with the skills, networks, and mentorship needed to shape the continent’s future.
Fellowship Overview
Each year, three Fellows are selected to serve in the executive offices of:
- The African Development Bank (AfDB) in Abidjan
- The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa
- The International Trade Centre (ITC) in Geneva
Over the course of 12 months, Fellows gain invaluable experience by working on research, policy design, and executive-level initiatives, while receiving direct mentorship from the heads of these host organisations.
Fellowship Benefits
Successful applicants will receive:
- $100,000 stipend for the fellowship year
- 12 months of hands-on professional experience in leading African and global institutions
- Mentorship from senior leaders of AfDB, ECA, or ITC
- Membership in the Now Generation Network (NGN), an active community of young African leaders continuing to drive change beyond the fellowship
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be nationals of African countries
- Hold a Master’s degree
- Have a minimum of 7 years relevant professional experience
- Be under 40 years old, or under 45 for women with children
