Would you like to attend one of Europe’s most prestigious interdisciplinary gatherings? The European Forum Alpbach Scholarship Programme 2026 offers young leaders the opportunity to participate in an unforgettable experience in the Austrian Alps.
Each year, hundreds of talented students, professionals, and changemakers from around the world travel to the village of Alpbach to join the renowned European Forum Alpbach (EFA).
About the EFA Scholarship Programme
The EFA Scholarship Programme supports around 350 first-time participants annually. Scholarships are awarded by the European Forum Alpbach and the Forum Alpbach Network (FAN).
Scholarship holders are unique in that they remain for the entire duration of the Forum, enjoying nearly two immersive weeks of academic, professional, and cultural engagement.
Participants attend:
- Scientific and interdisciplinary seminars
- Skills-based workshops and artistic studios
- A high-level conference programme featuring global decision-makers
- Social and cultural networking events
The experience combines intellectual depth with community building, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Alps.
As one former participant described it:
“It was one of those moments that changes your direction — something you can later trace many life decisions back to.”

What Makes EFA Unique?
The Forum creates opportunities for direct dialogue with policymakers, academics, entrepreneurs, and civil society leaders. Past sessions have included discussions on Europe’s global role, democracy, foreign policy, activism, and social transformation.
Participants engage in:
- Thematic seminars on leadership, activism, and change
- Informal “Brown Bag” discussions
- Policy debates with European ministers and global experts
- Outdoor dialogue sessions and networking activities
The interdisciplinary format allows participants to connect ideas across politics, economics, science, technology, and culture.
A Lifelong Community
The EFA experience extends far beyond the two-week Forum.
Through the Forum Alpbach Network, alumni remain connected through 34 initiatives across 20 countries. This global network fosters collaboration, dialogue, and impact-driven projects year-round.
Former scholarship holders often describe EFA not just as a conference, but as the beginning of a lifelong European and global community.
What the Scholarship Covers
The EFA Scholarship includes:
- Full participation fee for the Forum
- Accommodation costs for the duration of the event
If additional costs (such as food, travel, or special needs) present financial challenges, applicants may request supplementary financial support. This additional funding depends on available resources and the Forum’s solidarity-based funding model.
Applicants who are financially able are encouraged to voluntarily cover their accommodation cost (€49 per night, totaling €539 for 11 nights). This contribution helps make participation accessible to individuals from less privileged backgrounds.
