What is the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme?
The UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) is a global initiative that promotes harmony between people and nature.
Rather than separating humans from protected areas, MAB supports Biosphere Reserves—special regions where communities and ecosystems coexist sustainably. Today, there are over 700 Biosphere Reserves worldwide where innovative environmental and development practices are tested and shared.
The core idea is simple: Protect nature while supporting human well-being.

Objectives of the 2026 Forum
