Applications are officially open for the UN Ocean Fellowship 2025, a fully funded, short-term program that will take place in Lisbon, Portugal from October 20 to October 24, 2025. This prestigious fellowship, funded by UN DESA and the Government of Portugal, brings together global changemakers for 5 intensive days of training, collaboration, and action for our oceans.
The fellowship is designed for high-level ocean policy officials from developing countries, offering a powerful platform to build capacity, expand international networks, and drive ocean sustainability on a global scale.

Fellowship Goals

- Foster international collaboration and build global ocean leadership networks
- Directly support SDG 14: Life Below Water
Who Should Apply?
The fellowship is open to candidates from all UN Member States, with a focus on:
- Senior-level officials from developing countries
- Heads or deputy heads of national ocean or maritime policy departments
- Ambassadors or equivalent officials with ocean-related responsibilities
- Applicants must be currently employed by their government and plan to stay long-term
- Fluency in English is required (all sessions will be held in English)
