This year, the number of awards has increased from 300 to 400, creating more opportunities for aspiring researchers. The fellowship is open to candidates of all nationalities, and no application fee is required. Applicants are not expected to have prior work experience, making it accessible to fresh graduates and early researchers.

Fellowship Benefits
The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme provides generous financial support:

- Conference & Research Travel Allowance: HK$14,200 per year (approx. USD 1,820)
- Extra Support: Available if the PhD program exceeds 3 years (subject to university approval)
- No Work Experience Required: Open to both fresh graduates and experienced applicants
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to all nationalities
- Must be a new full-time PhD student at one of the 8 listed universities
- English language proficiency is required:
- If previous studies were conducted in English → IELTS may not be required
- If not → Proof of English proficiency is mandatory
- If previous studies were conducted in English → IELTS may not be required
Application Process
The application involves two key steps:
Step 1: Initial Application
- Submit an application through the HKPFS Electronic System (HKPFSES) before 1 December 2025 (12:00 noon, Hong Kong time)
- Receive your HKPFS Reference Number
Step 2: University Application
- Apply directly to your chosen universities/programs (up to two programs at one or two universities)
- Include your HKPFS Reference Number in the application
