Applications are now open for the British Council UK 90th Anniversary Fellowship 2027 at the University of Edinburgh. This fully funded fellowship is open to international researchers from eligible countries worldwide. The fellowship will run for 12 months, beginning in January 2027.
Selected fellows will spend the first 10 months conducting research at the University of Edinburgh and the final two months in their home countries working on knowledge exchange activities in collaboration with the British Council. There is no application fee, and all major expenses are covered by the program.

Eligible Countries
Applicants must be based in an ODA-recipient country where the British Council operates. Eligible countries include:
Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Ukraine, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and several others.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be from an eligible country
- Hold a PhD or equivalent research qualification
- Have completed their doctoral viva before the deadline
- Be within seven years of completing their PhD
- Demonstrate a strong academic and research background
- Submit an independent research proposal
- Be available to stay in Edinburgh during the fellowship period
Preference may be given to applicants who have not previously studied in the UK or another non-ODA country.
