The Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (JADS), launched by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in partnership with the Government of Japan, is now open for applications. This fully funded master’s-level scholarship supports outstanding African students pursuing advanced studies in fields critical to Africa’s development.
The program equips future leaders with the skills and expertise needed to drive progress across the continent, while strengthening collaboration between Africa and Japan.

Scholars are placed at top universities in Japan or partner institutions worldwide offering programs aligned with these fields.
Scholarship Benefits
The JADS Program provides comprehensive support for up to two years (24 months):
- Full tuition coverage
- Monthly stipend for living expenses (accommodation, food, daily costs)
- Round-trip airfare
- Health insurance
- Research grant (for thesis programs)
- Bridging/preparatory courses (if needed)
- Six-month post-graduation extension for internships or job placement
This funding ensures scholars can fully focus on their studies without financial concerns.
Costs Not Covered
- Expenses for dependents/family members
- Non-academic training, seminars, or extracurriculars
- Personal equipment (e.g., laptops)
- Language training not provided by the university
- Unapproved supplementary activities (e.g., field trips, conferences)
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be citizens of an AfDB regional member country
- Hold a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field
- Have a strong academic record and professional experience
- Demonstrate contributions to national development
- Meet admission requirements of a partner university
- Commit to returning home after graduation
Preference is given to candidates working in public institutions, research organizations, NGOs, or development-focused enterprises.
