The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme at the University of Edinburgh provides access to fully funded online postgraduate study for African students who wish to make a difference in their local and global communities.
All online degrees offered by the University of Edinburgh carry the same recognition and academic value as those delivered on campus — ensuring scholars receive a high-quality education from one of the world’s top universities.
Study Options
Applicants can choose between two flexible academic tracks:
- Postgraduate Diploma (up to 2 years, part-time):
Designed for individuals looking to shift careers or gain practical knowledge in a new professional field. - Master’s Degree (up to 3 years, part-time):
Suitable for those who already hold an undergraduate degree and wish to deepen their expertise in a related discipline.
Note: Applicants who already hold a postgraduate qualification are not eligible for the online Master’s option.
Graduates from any accredited African university (Bachelor’s or Master’s level) are encouraged to apply, provided they can submit their final degree certificates and transcripts before the application deadline.
Focus Area: Climate Leadership
Scholarships are available exclusively for online programs related to climate action and sustainability.
All selected Mastercard Foundation Scholars will also participate in the Climate Leadership Programme, designed to equip them with the tools and knowledge needed to tackle environmental challenges and lead positive change across Africa.
