Applications are now open for two six-month internship positions at the Danish Embassy in Kigali, Rwanda.
The internships offer students practical experience in diplomacy, international relations, political affairs, development cooperation and communications while working alongside the Danish Foreign Service.
There are two available positions:
- Development Intern – UDV-1
- Political Intern – POL-1
Internship Details
- Host: Danish Embassy in Kigali
- Location: Rwanda
- Duration: 6 months
- Level: Bachelor’s and Master’s students
- Working hours: 37 hours per week

1. Development Intern – UDV-1
The Development Intern will support Denmark’s development cooperation with Rwanda.
The role is ideal for students interested in:
- International development
- Climate and environment
- Migration and refugees
- Human rights
- Good governance
- African affairs
Responsibilities may include preparing reports and briefings, supporting official visits and meetings, monitoring development projects, participating in field visits, preparing presentations and supporting the Embassy’s communications and social media.
2. Political Intern – POL-1
The Political Intern will join the Embassy’s political team and contribute to strengthening diplomatic relations between Denmark and Rwanda.
The work covers areas such as:
- Human rights
- Democratic governance
- Gender equality
- Peace and security
- Youth participation
- EU relations
- Green transition
- Regional politics
Interns may monitor political and economic developments, contribute to political reports, research regional issues, assist with high-level visits and meetings, and support the Embassy’s communication activities.
Is the Internship Paid?
The internship itself is unpaid.
However, interns may receive DKK 5,000 per month as compensation for certain documented expenses.
Interns are generally responsible for their own:
- Accommodation
- Transportation
- Insurance
- Visa expenses
- Vaccinations
- Other living expenses
Eligible students may also be able to receive SU, subject to the applicable rules.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme at a higher education institution and must remain enrolled throughout the internship.
Important: This opportunity has specific nationality and residency requirements.
Applicants must generally be either:
- Danish nationals studying at a Danish or foreign university in a relevant field; or
- Foreign nationals studying at a Danish higher education institution in a relevant field who meet the required Danish residency conditions.
Foreign applicants must also have permanent residence in Denmark at the time of application.
Applicants must not have previously completed an internship with the Danish Foreign Service and must be able to obtain the required security clearance.
